Ex-Scotland Skipper Hogg Undergoes Achilles Surgery

Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has undergone surgery on his Achilles tendon, his French club Montpellier announced on Tuesday.

The injury, sustained during Montpellier’s Top 14 victory over Perpignan on Saturday, is expected to sideline the fullback and fly-half for the remainder of the season, as recovery from such injuries typically takes up to six months.

This news comes after Hogg, who earned over 100 caps for Scotland, had come out of retirement at the beginning of the current season to provide injury cover for Montpellier. He had also been in discussions with the club regarding a potential extension to his contract.

Off the field, Hogg faced legal proceedings in January, receiving a year of supervision after admitting to abusing his estranged wife over five years, thus avoiding a prison sentence.

Currently, Montpellier sit ninth in the Top 14 standings, just one point outside the play-off positions with four matches remaining in the regular season.
