Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been apprehended by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His arrest occurred on Friday at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The arrest is reportedly linked to VeryDarkMan’s recent public criticism of GTBank concerning alleged unauthorised withdrawals from his mother’s bank account.
His outspoken demands for accountability regarding the issue had garnered significant attention across various online platforms, leading up to his detention.
Barrister Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan’s legal representative, confirmed the arrest via a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating its unacceptability and asserting that demanding accountability is not a crime.
In a subsequent post, Adeyanju noted that VeryDarkMan was arrested alongside a friend identified as C Park, while his mother was left unharmed.
However, in a later update on X, Adeyanju indicated that VeryDarkMan and his friend were being held in EFCC custody.
He further claimed that VeryDarkMan initially refused to meet with anyone and alleged that GTBank staff deliberately locked the exit door for several minutes to facilitate the arrest by the EFCC.
Adeyanju announced that legal action would be taken against GTBank for the alleged inhumane treatment of their client.
As of the time of this report, the police have not released any official statement regarding the arrest, and it remains unclear whether any formal charges have been filed against VeryDarkMan.
