Social media activist Martins Otse, widely recognised as VeryDarkMan, has been freed from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s custody.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the release on Wednesday through a post on X, expressing appreciation to Nigerians and various public figures who advocated for his support.
Adeyanju had previously voiced his annoyance regarding the EFCC’s management of the bail process, labelling it as “social media bail” since the commission had not provided formal bail documents despite stating that his client had been granted administrative bail.
In a statement from the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC confirmed on Tuesday that VeryDarkMan had received bail but was still in custody while waiting for his bail conditions to be met.
The Commission stated that the activist was summoned for inquiries due to multiple petitions claiming serious financial offences. He was detained after allegedly ignoring several invitations sent to his registered addresses and communication methods.
