Kwara Governor Highlights the Role of Steel in Nigeria’s Industrialisation Drive

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor of Kwara State, located in north-central Nigeria, has emphasised the key role of steel in Nigeria’s industrialisation efforts. He expressed confidence that maximising Nigeria’s steel potential, especially through the proposed reforms by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will yield significant results.

Governor AbdulRazaq noted the importance of reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Company, stating that it is crucial for Nigeria’s industrialisation agenda. He urged President Tinubu to consider Kwara’s KAM Holdings Limited to spearhead the operations of Ajaokuta Steel Production. The governor cited the substantial contributions of KAM Holdings to the Nigerian steel sector.

Speaking during a visit to Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, Governor AbdulRazaq welcomed a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, led by the Honourable Minister, Prince Audu Abubakar. He commended the minister for selecting Kwara as the first destination for their fact-finding mission.

The Governor praised Alhaji Kamoru Yusuf, the leader of KAM Holdings Limited, for his significant investments in steel production, positioning Kwara as arguably the second-largest steel producer in Nigeria. He advocated strongly for KAM Holdings to play a key role in the future of Ajaokuta Steel Production.

In his response, Minister Audu affirmed the federal government’s commitment to supporting indigenous players in the steel industry. He hailed Governor Abdul Razaq’s administration for its remarkable achievements across various sectors in Kwara State. The Minister reiterated the government’s objective to create millions of jobs through industrialisation, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
