Fabian Kwesi named Uganda’s U-17 coach

Fabian Kwesi the ex-coach of Ghana U-17 team has been announced as the new coach of the Uganda Football Association

He will be leading the team he guided to the 2017 Africa Youth Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India two years ago.

According to Peter Magogo, Uganda’s FA President, Fabian has the experience with teams having coached the Ghana U-17 national team.

“We have had the position of the U-17 national team head coach vacant and as FUFA, we looked for someone who has experience with the young players, a person who has contacts. Currently the market in Europe looks at young players” Peter added.

Fabian has signed a one-year contract and his main task will be to help Uganda clinch qualification for the 2019 World Cup in Brazil by finishing in the top four in Tanzania.

“I am here with a mission to guide the Uganda Cubs at the qualifiers in Tanzania,” Fabian told local media.

“It will not be an easy task because we have little time to prepare, but I call for cooperation from everyone,” Fabian said.

Uganda is in a group with hosts Tanzania, Nigeria and Angola at this year’s U-17 Nations Cup which takes place in Dar-es-Salaam between 14-28 April 2019.

The new coach will work together with first assistant coach Nelly Jackson Magera, second assistant Hamza Lutalo and goalkeeping coach Mubarak Kiberu.
