A British couple, Lindsay and Craig Foreman, who were arrested in Iran on espionage charges in January, have finally spoken with their family in the UK.
The phone call, which lasted about eight minutes, was the first direct contact the family has had with the couple since their detention 213 days ago.
The news comes after the couple’s children learned over the weekend that their parents had been moved to separate, notorious prisons in and near Tehran, raising concerns about their well-being.
Lindsay’s son, Joe Bennett, shared his relief in a statement, saying, “We finally heard their voices… Lindsay and Craig are alive.”
Craig’s son, Kieran Foreman, also expressed his relief, noting the call brought him “back up from the hole of despair.”

Despite the emotional reunion, Bennett stressed that the family remains focused on securing the couple’s release.
He criticised the UK government for its “ongoing silence” about its strategy to help them, pointing out that his parents have not had a consular visit in months.
The Foremans were arrested while on a round-the-world motorbike trip. Iranian authorities accused them of being spies a month later.
Little was known about their status until this week, when their family learned of their transfer to Qarchak women’s prison and Tehran’s central prison, both known for their poor conditions.
