The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Police Force over its continued enforcement of the controversial tinted permit policy, insisting that the matter is already before the courts.
In a formal notification to the police, the NBA referenced Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025, which directly challenges the legality of the policy.
According to the Association, any further enforcement in the face of the pending litigation amounts to an affront to judicial authority.
“The Nigerian Bar Association has formally notified the Nigeria Police Force of the pendency of Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025 challenging the legality of the tinted permit policy,” the body stated.
The Association further demanded “an immediate abatement of all acts in disregard of the court” and warned that the NBA Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has been mandated to initiate contempt and disciplinary proceedings against any police officers who flout the court process.
The NBA’s intervention escalates an already contentious policy that has drawn criticism from motorists, civil society, and now, the nation’s foremost legal body.
While the police insist the tint permit is necessary for national security and crime prevention, critics say it violates constitutional rights and is prone to abuse by law enforcement.
