Several people were reportedly killed on Friday night after a gas explosion tore through the Bioku-Alaadun area of Ona Ara Local Government in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to PUNCH, an eyewitness reported seeing severely mutilated bodies at the scene.
The blast occurred while a tanker was offloading gas at a retail outlet. The victims were said to include the shop owner and others who were nearby at the time of the incident.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the explosion in a telephone conversation with the correspondent, noting that emergency responders were already on site working to bring the situation under control.
He acknowledged that there were casualties but said comprehensive details were still being gathered.
Akinyinka added, “Our men are there; they are still working. Yes, the incident happened. They were discharging gas and there was an explosion. Information on the casualties is still being gathered.”
