The Chairman of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, has submitted an official corruption petition against the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, through his legal representative at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters.
This information was revealed in a statement provided to our correspondent by the Dangote Group’s media team on Friday.
It is important to note that Dangote had previously submitted a petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, requesting an investigation into Ahmed for allegedly spending $5 million on his children’s education in Switzerland. He recently retracted that petition, even as the ICPC pledged to pursue its inquiry.

The statement released on Friday indicated that Dangote’s petition to the EFCC came after “the retraction of the same petition from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, a tactical choice intended to hasten the prosecution process.”
In the petition, signed by Lead Counsel Dr O.J. Onoja, Dangote called on the EFCC to investigate claims of office abuse and illicit enrichment against Ahmed, urging prosecution if evidence of wrongdoing is found. The petition further stated that Dangote would provide evidence to substantiate claims of financial misconduct and impunity.
The petition further mentioned that Dangote is prepared to provide proof to support allegations of financial impropriety and misconduct. Onoja also urged the commission, led by Mr Olanipekun Olukoyede, “to examine the allegations of office abuse and corruption against Engr. Farouk Ahmed and to take appropriate prosecutorial action if warranted.”
