US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced military operations targeting Iranian naval and missile sites, saying the goal was to pressure Tehran and urging Iranians to overthrow their government.
The announcement followed reported strikes by the United States and Israel.
Trump said in a video on his Truth Social platform that the operations were a major reaction to perceived threats and that Iranian forces should follow US orders to prevent harm.
“We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. It will be totally — again — obliterated. We’re going to annihilate their navy,” Trump said.
“To the great proud people of Iran, I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand.
“Stay sheltered. Don’t leave your home. It’s very dangerous outside. Bombs will be dropping everywhere. When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take.”

Trump also addressed Iranian military forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stating they should lay down their weapons to avoid casualties.
“To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces, and all of the police, I say tonight that you must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity or in the alternative, face certain death,” Trump said.
The strikes come after months of heightened tensions and the largest US troop deployment to the Middle East in recent years.
On Friday, Trump had indicated that no final decision on military action had been made, while US envoys met in Geneva with Iranian diplomats to discuss nuclear programme concerns.
Oman’s top diplomat, who facilitated Thursday’s talks, expressed hope for a diplomatic resolution and reported progress on issues related to uranium enrichment, though Iranian officials denied any agreement.
Trump previously authorised limited US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June 2025 in support of Israeli operations.
