The Iranian government has ordered the immediate and indefinite closure of all universities nationwide following a series of coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel.
The announcement, issued by the Ministry of Science on Saturday, coincides with the launch of “Operation Epic Fury” and “Operation Roaring Lion,” which have targeted various locations across the Islamic Republic, including the capital, Tehran.
The closure of higher education institutions is part of a broader emergency response by the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
In addition to the university shutdowns, schools have been closed, and government offices are currently operating at only 50% capacity.
These measures follow reported missile strikes on academic and civilian areas, including University Street in Tehran and a girls’ elementary school in the southern city of Minab, where state media reported dozens of student casualties.
Tensions have reached a critical peak as U.S. President Donald Trump characterised the strikes as a “major combat operation” aimed at dismantling Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities.

In retaliation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched a significant wave of drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli assets and U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf.
As the conflict intensifies, Iran has effectively closed its airspace and established a national crisis management headquarters.
While banks remain open to provide essential services, the government has urged citizens to remain calm and avoid crowded areas.
The indefinite suspension of academic activities highlights the severity of the security situation as both domestic unrest and international military engagement converge.
