More explosions were reported in Dubai, Doha and Manama on Sunday morning as Iran intensified retaliatory strikes across the Gulf following joint US-Israeli attacks that reportedly killed its supreme leader and other senior officials.
The latest strikes follow a wave of attacks a day earlier, when Iranian missiles and drones targeted several locations across the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates capital, Abu Dhabi, as well as military installations and civilian infrastructure in multiple countries, excluding Oman.
According to the UAE defence ministry, Iran fired 137 missiles and 209 drones at the country during Saturday’s assault, triggering fires at key locations, including The Palm and Burj Al Arab.
At least one person was killed and several others injured in an incident at Abu Dhabi’s airport, while other regional airports also recorded damage.
In Qatar, officials said Iran had launched 65 missiles and 12 drones towards the Gulf state, most of which were intercepted, but eight people were injured, with one in critical condition.
Witnesses also reported smoke rising from areas near US military bases in Abu Dhabi and Manama, which hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet. Similar targets were reportedly struck in Kuwait.
The escalating attacks have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, raising tensions across the oil-rich Gulf, long considered one of the more stable regions in the Middle East.
