China has slammed the United States and Israel for launching a series of strikes against Iran and the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed the country’s stance on the ongoing tensions rocking the Middle East.

According to the spokesperson, the attacks on Iran are a grave violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security, which tramples on the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and basic norms in international relations.

The spokesperson further called for an end to the ongoing crisis.

“The attack and killing of Iran’s supreme leader is a grave violation of Iran’s sovereignty and security. It tramples on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms in international relations. China firmly opposes and strongly condemns it,” the spokesperson said.

“We urge an immediate stop to the military operations, no further escalation of the tense situation and a joint effort to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East and the world at large.”

China is reportedly providing Iran with real-time satellite images and electronic intelligence data, including the exact coordinates of American ships and bases.

Russia also expressed similar views on the US and Israel’s attack on Iran. Like Russia, China and Iran have a closely aligned strategic relationship.

China is one of Iran’s biggest trading partners and a major buyer of Iranian oil. China regularly backs Iran on issues like sovereignty, opposing unilateral pressure, sanctions, and foreign interference.
