In a high-level phone call on Tuesday, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, emphasised to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi that “talking is always better than continuing to fight.”
This diplomatic push follows recent confusion regarding potential negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
While U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that productive talks with an unnamed Iranian official had occurred, the Iranian government has officially denied those reports, maintaining a cautious stance toward U.S. diplomatic overtures.
According to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang Yi urged all involved parties to remain open to de-escalation.

He expressed hope that every available “opportunity and window for peace” would be utilised to transition from active hostilities to a formal peace process as quickly as possible.
As a significant partner to both nations, China continues to position itself as a mediator, advocating for a swift return to the negotiating table to stabilise the volatile regional situation.
