Several powerful explosions were heard over Jerusalem on Saturday, after the Israeli military confirmed it had detected incoming missiles launched from Iran.

AFP journalists on the ground reported hearing at least six distinct blasts as air defence systems engaged threats over the city.

These latest strikes mark a significant escalation in the regional conflict, which was triggered more than a month ago by U.S. and Israeli operations against Tehran.

The aerial activity in Jerusalem followed a series of missile attacks earlier in the day that targeted Tel Aviv and other parts of central Israel.

According to local rescue services, at least five Israelis were wounded during those initial barrages.

The ongoing exchange of fire has kept urban centres across the country on high alert as the military continues to monitor for further projectiles.

As the war enters its second month, the frequency of direct strikes between the two nations has intensified, causing widespread disruption and heightening fears of a broader humanitarian crisis.

Security forces in Jerusalem remain in a state of readiness, while emergency teams assess the impact of the most recent interceptions and any potential debris fall in residential areas.
