A minibus taxi travelling from Zebediela in Limpopo toward Pretoria overturned at around 9:40 am, resulting in one fatality.

Five passengers sustained serious injuries, and 10 others were treated for minor wounds before being transported to nearby hospitals.

Authorities noted that the vehicle was en route to the capital when the driver lost control near the bridge between Vaalbank and KwaMhlanga.

MEC Jackie Macie expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution during long-distance travel.

Emphasising that fatigue and speeding are leading causes of road fatalities, the MEC called on drivers to rest sufficiently and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.

As the holiday period continues, emergency services remain on high alert to manage the increased volume of traffic and prevent further loss of life on the province’s major routes.
