Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for the club against Everton on Sunday, scoring a 100th-minute header at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The win significantly strengthens Liverpool’s grip on a Champions League qualifying spot, moving them seven points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea.

Earlier in the match, Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a record-equalling ninth Merseyside derby goal before Everton’s Beto levelled the scores in a tense second half that saw Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili leave the field on a stretcher.

In a thrilling contest at Villa Park, Aston Villa moved level on points with third-placed Manchester United after a 4-3 win over Sunderland.

Despite Ollie Watkins scoring twice and Morgan Rogers adding a third, Villa nearly squandered their lead as Sunderland struck twice in a single minute to equalise.

However, Tammy Abraham emerged as the hero with a stoppage-time winner, keeping Unai Emery’s side in pole position for a top-five finish and European qualification.

At the bottom of the table, Nottingham Forest boosted their survival hopes with a 4-1 comeback victory against Burnley, fuelled by a Morgan Gibbs-White hat-trick.

The result piles pressure on Tottenham, who remain just five points above the relegation zone after a draw with Brighton.

As the focus shifts to the title race, Manchester City prepare to host Arsenal in a high-stakes encounter that could determine the Premier League trophy’s destiny.
