A faction of the African Democratic Congress has dissolved the party’s National Working Committee and named Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The decision was taken at a national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja on Sunday, where delegates endorsed Kachikwu through a voice vote.
The faction immediately replaced the dissolved NWC with a new set of national officers.
Kingsley Oggah was named Chairman of the Board of Trustees, while Abdulkadir Bashir takes over as National Chairman.
Other appointees include Johnny Derek as National Secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as National Treasurer, Chief Amirigoye as National Financial Secretary, and Dr Chris Ugwu as National Legal Adviser. A National Publicity Secretary was also announced.

Speaking after receiving the party’s flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria needs strong leadership to tackle insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and division.
“The mass exodus of our middle class is indicative of those who have chosen not to be part of this hardship anymore,” he said.
He added that Nigeria must not be controlled by a few privileged interests.
