Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday reportedly held a closed-door meeting with his main challenger in the party’s presidential primary, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
The meeting comes days after Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket, defeating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in the party’s primary election.
Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the primary before the official declaration of results, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities.
Following his victory, however, Atiku used his acceptance speech to call for unity within the party, urging Amaechi and other dissatisfied members to put the contest behind them and work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Details of the meeting were still unclear as of press time, and neither Atiku nor Amaechi publicly addressed journalists after the talks.
According to Vanguard, sources within the ADC believe the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by Atiku to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure broader support within the party ahead of the presidential election.
