The death toll from Venezuela’s devastating twin earthquakes has officially surpassed 4,300 people.

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced the updated figure on Saturday, raising the confirmed number of fatalities to 4,333, up from the 4,118 deaths reported on Friday.

Rodríguez, who is the brother of interim leader Delcy Rodríguez, shared the grim numbers as rescue and recovery teams continue their operations across the affected zones.

The catastrophe began on June 24 when magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck the capital city of Caracas and the coastal state of La Guaira.

The powerful tremors flattened entire high-rise apartment blocks into layers of rubble.

The widespread destruction has forced more than 19,000 displaced people to live in makeshift camps that have sprung up across stadiums, public plazas, and sidewalks.
