The United States Embassy in Abuja will continue to process diplomatic and official visas (A, G and C visas), the embassy announced on Monday.
According to a post on X by U.S. Mission Nigeria, applicants who believe they may qualify for a diplomatic or official visa should first consult with their protocol office that normally handles visa matters.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja will continue to process diplomatic and official visas (A, G and C visas). Applicants who believe they may qualify for a diplomatic or official visa should first consult with their protocol office that normally handles visa matters,” the embassy wrote.
The clarification comes after the U.S. Embassy announced earlier this month that routine visa services would only be available at the Consulate General in Lagos, effective August 1, 2026.
The embassy said all immigrant and non-immigrant visa services except official and diplomatic visas will be processed in Lagos.
Applicants with unused and still-valid visa application fee receipts may use them to schedule a new appointment at the U.S. Consulate Lagos, the embassy said.
For diplomatic and official visa applicants, required documents include a diplomatic note or note verbale from the Foreign Ministry or International Organisation, the DS-160 confirmation page, a diplomatic or official passport and a recent photo taken on a white background.
The embassy advised that applications should be submitted a minimum of 10 business days before the planned departure date to ensure timely processing.
