Indonesia Suspends Operations at Six Airports

Indonesian authorities have suspended operations at six airports following volcanic eruptions from Mount Anak Krakatoa, the country’s Transport Ministry said on Sunday.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung had also been closed to flights after showing signs of being affected by the volcanic activity.

“The Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung showed indications of being affected. Consequently, we have declared… the airport closed to flights,” Dudy Purwagandhi said.

Purwagandhi announced the latest closure during a press conference on Sunday, saying authorities had decided to halt flights at the airport because of the reported impact.

Operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia’s largest airport, located in the capital Jakarta, had been suspended earlier.
