Papua New Guinea Police Rescue 39 Trafficking Victims

Papua New Guinea police rescued 39 Indonesian human trafficking victims and arrested four Chinese nationals after busting a complex transnational smuggling ring in Port Moresby.

Intelligence officers from the Police Transnational Crime Directorate uncovered the network, which lured victims through social media with fraudulent job offers before holding them against their will inside a three-bedroom downtown property.

Police Commissioner David Manning condemned the enterprise and vowed that authorities will show no leniency to human traffickers.

Deputy Commissioner Donald Tamasombi noted that the arrested suspects likely belong to a broader criminal syndicate operating between Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Authorities are currently coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy to safeguard the rescued victims while collaborating with international law enforcement to track down and dismantle the network’s offshore components.
