Nigerian Army troops have destroyed Lakurawa terrorist camps in Waria Forest, Sokoto State, killed several fighters and recovered weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation took place on Thursday in Tangaza Local Government Area as troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, advanced through suspected terrorist hideouts.
According to a statement shared on X by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops from Sector 2 moved through terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they encountered the fighters.
“During the firefight, troops dominated the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest,” the statement said.

The troops pursued the fleeing fighters and killed several of them. They also destroyed the camps and other support structures found in the area. The army recovered weapons and five motorcycles during the clearance operation.
However, the statement did not disclose the exact number of fighters killed or list the weapons recovered. The task force said troops would continue clearance operations to restrict the group’s movement and improve security in nearby communities.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist hideouts and restoring peace across the joint operations area. The command commended the troops for their efforts and urged residents to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
It said timely and credible information from the public would help support ongoing military operations and improve security in the region.
