Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles and other items during clearance operations in Sokoto State.
The operations, conducted on Thursday, 15 October 2026, also led to the recovery of ammunition, communication equipment and other items, according to the military.
The task force’s Media Information Officer, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Danja said troops of Sector 2 first encountered the terrorists at Waria Forest, where they engaged the group in a firefight and neutralised one suspect.
The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles and two motorcycles during the encounter.
“In a subsequent encounter at Sarma Village, troops engaged another group of terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one and forcing others to flee, abandoning their equipment,” the statement said.
According to Danja, troops subsequently searched the area and recovered six additional motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition and a communication device.
The recoveries brought the total number of AK-47 rifles recovered during the operations to four and motorcycles to eight.

Military urges residents to remain vigilant
Danja said the operations demonstrated the commitment of troops to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring peace and security across the joint operations area.
“These successes underscore the sustained commitment of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area,” he said.
He also commended members of the public for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies.
The task force urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security outpost to support ongoing military operations.
The clearance operations form part of sustained efforts by security forces to weaken terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-West region.
