Momo Payment Service Bank has partnered with Chapel Hill to give Nigerians access to the Dangote initial public offering through its mobile app, aimed at widening participation in the landmark share sale.

Emmanuel Akhigbe, Manager of Merchant of Business at MTN Momo PSB, said the partnership was designed to close a gap that had seen many Nigerians lose money to Ponzi schemes in the name of investment.

“Gradually Nigeria is moving from an aspect where many people watch wealth being created into a culture where people now want to be involved in creating wealth,” Akhigbe said.

“And that is why you see a lot of opera regarding Dangote IPO. However, there is a gap, and that’s why Momo PSB has come to play. The gap is that a whole lot of people have had their fingers bumped. Why? Through the Ponzi schemes. All in the name of investment.”

How to invest

Akhigbe said the mobile phone in users’ hands should do more than transfer funds, make payments or buy airtime, describing it as an instrument that could launch them into making investments.

“All you need to do go to Play Store or App Store, download Momo PSB NG and follow the prompt,” he said.

“Open your account in less than 5 to 10 seconds. Impute your BVN. Now at this point BVN is very critical because that is one of the unique identifiers that identifies you as a Nigerian.”

He said the BVN would be validated on the app and place the user on tier 2, the minimum tier needed to access the Dangote IPO.

“The moment you interact with the icon you go ahead and purchase your shares,” he said.

“And of course the shares is very accessible. 525 Naira per share and the minimum you can access is 10 unit and that’s just about 5,250.”

Asked whether there was a limit, Akhigbe said, “No limit. You can buy as much as you want. But just the minimum you can access is 5,250. That gives you access to 10 shares. 10 unit of shares.”

Akhigbe said the partnership was driven by financial inclusion considerations.

“The PSB licence was given to telecommunication companies the likes of MTN and Waterview. Momo PSB is the fintech arm of MTN Nigeria. And the primary purpose is to go to the rurals,” he said.

“Partnering with Chapel Hill is to enable Momo PSB to leverage its strength and the network of the parent company, which is MTN Nigeria, to reach the last mile and make it accessible to them.”
