The heads of Nigeria’s immigration and correctional services will remain in office for an additional 18 months after President Bola Tinubu approved tenure extensions for both officials, the presidency announced on Monday.
Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, will now serve until May 26, 2028, while Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, will remain in post until June 30, 2028.
The approval followed a recommendation from Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga said the extensions are intended to bridge “a succession gap” in both agencies and give their boards sufficient time to identify replacements.
Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership and charged them to consolidate these gains.

The president nominated Nwakuche as Controller-General of the Correctional Service in December 2024. The Senate confirmed the appointment in March 2025.
President Tinubu nominated Kemi Nanna Nandap as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on February 21, 2024. The Senate confirmed the appointment on March 1, 2024.
