Kenya has confirmed a ninth case of Ebola (Bundibugyo Virus Disease), the health ministry said on Tuesday, adding that all infections remain confined to a single cluster with no evidence of wider transmission.
The new patient, a 24-year-old man and close family member of the index case, was already in quarantine when he developed symptoms, the ministry said in a statement.
He was isolated immediately, tested and started on treatment. The first case has died.

“Our patients are improving and responding well to treatment,” the ministry said, noting that the eight surviving patients are stable under strict observation.
It said 500 doses of medicines had been received to support treatment.
Authorities have traced and quarantined 134 of 135 contacts, or 99.3 percent, far above the global benchmark of 85 percent.

The ministry said it had distributed protective equipment, testing kits and other supplies to 12 very high-risk and 16 high-risk counties, and set up a dedicated laboratory at Kenyatta National Hospital’s Infectious Disease Unit.

No infection has spread within quarantine facilities, and health workers caring for patients are fully protected, the ministry said.
It also added that Kenya remains open, with no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings.
“We appeal to communities to welcome them home with love and open arms: having completed 21 days without symptoms, they pose no risk of infection to anyone,” the ministry said.
