France has urged India and Pakistan to exercise caution and avoid escalating tensions following a surge in violence between the two nuclear powers, marking the most intense conflict in 20 years.
Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated in a television interview on Wednesday that while France understands India’s need to protect itself from terrorism, both nations must show restraint to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of civilians.

Barrot emphasised that a prolonged conflict between India and Pakistan would not be in anyone’s interest.
He also mentioned his intention to communicate with his counterparts in both countries.
France’s call for restraint comes after India launched fatal missile strikes against Pakistan, days after accusing Islamabad of supporting a deadly attack in the Indian-administered part of the disputed Kashmir region.
