Katsina Declares Holiday for Tinubu’s Visit

The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, has declared Friday a public holiday to allow civil servants to take part in welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state for the commissioning of major infrastructure projects completed by the current administration.

Governor Radda made the announcement on Thursday following his speech at the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebration, organised by the Katsina State Council of the organised labour.

“I am pleased to inform you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be visiting Katsina State tomorrow to commission several key projects we have completed over the past two years,” he said. “In light of this, I hereby declare tomorrow a work-free day so that civil servants can join us in giving the President a warm and honourable welcome.”

Speaking on this year’s theme, “Reclaiming the Civic Space Amid Economic Hardship,” Governor Radda praised the resilience and dedication of Katsina workers in the face of ongoing economic challenges.

During the event, the state council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the organised labour called on the Federal Government to enhance security across agricultural communities to ensure farmers can operate without fear of violence or extortion.

Hussaini Yanduna, Chairman of the Katsina State NLC, made the appeal at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, urging sustained efforts to improve safety in rural areas.

He commended the Governor for his decisive actions in improving security, stating: “We strongly believe that the security situation has now improved significantly due to this commitment.”

Yanduna also expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for clearing the backlog of gratuities owed to retirees across both state and local government levels. He highlighted that billions of naira had been spent to settle entitlements up to 2023, with verification for 2024 retirees set to begin soon.

“This is highly commendable, and we thank His Excellency immensely for this milestone achievement,” he added.
