Houthi-affiliated media reported on Sunday that overnight air raids on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which they attributed to the United States, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several more.
The Houthis‘ official Saba news agency stated that “two people were killed and another injured after the American enemy targeted a house” in a southern district of Sanaa.
The same source also reported that “nine others were injured, including two women and three children, in the American aggression on a residential area in the west of Al-Rawda,” another part of the capital.
An AFP correspondent in Sanaa confirmed hearing loud explosions on Saturday evening.
The Huthis, who control significant portions of Yemen, also reported strikes in other areas, including their northern stronghold of Saada and the Ras Issa fuel port in the western Hodeida region, where they previously claimed 80 fatalities in strikes just over a week ago.
As part of Iran’s “axis of resistance” against Israel and the US, the Houthis present themselves as defenders of Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict. They have consistently launched missiles and drones towards Israel and commercial ships in the Red Sea.
Since January 2024, the US military has been conducting attacks on Houthi positions, stating its aim to halt these attacks. These US operations have reportedly intensified under President Donald Trump, with near-daily strikes occurring in the past month.
On Sunday, the Houthis claimed to have fired a missile towards Israel for the second consecutive day. The Israeli military reported intercepting a missile originating from Yemen before it entered Israeli territory.
On Saturday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage of US aircraft carriers conducting strikes against the Houthis.
