The remaining 130 pupils abducted from a school in Niger State have been released, officials said on Sunday, bringing an end to weeks of captivity for all the children taken in the attack.
Officials of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) confirmed the development to newsmen.
President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, Sunday Dare, also announced the release in a short post on X.
“Another 130 abducted Niger State pupils released. None left in captivity,” Dare wrote.

The pupils were kidnapped November 21, 2025, when armed gunmen attacked St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School in the Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, in the early hours of the day.
During the attack, the assailants abducted more than 300 students and teachers in one of the largest mass school kidnappings recorded in Nigeria in recent years. At least one person was reported killed during the assault.
Some days after the incident, about 50 students managed to escape on their own. Another group of around 100 pupils was released on December 8 after security operations.
