United States President Donald Trump has said that 33.3% of Nigerian immigrant households in the United States receive some form of public assistance, according to data he shared on social media.
Trump posted a chart on his Truth Social platform on Sunday titled “Immigrant Welfare Recipient Rates by Country of Origin.”
The chart outlines welfare participation rates among immigrant households from about 120 countries and territories, covering benefits such as food assistance, healthcare programmes, and other public support.
Nigeria was listed at 33.3%, placing it near the middle of the chart.

Countries with the highest reported rates included Bhutan at 81.4%, Yemen at 75.2%, Somalia at 71.9%, the Marshall Islands at 71.4%, and the Dominican Republic and Afghanistan, both at 68.1%.
At the lower end of the chart were Bermuda, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Korea, and Kenya, with welfare participation rates ranging from about 25% to 29%.
