Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecom provider, 9mobile, has rebranded as T2, unveiling its new name and identity at a corporate event, Tech Meets Tenacity, held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.
The rebrand includes a change from the company’s long-standing green colour scheme to orange, marking a major shift in its operations and market outlook.

Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe said the move was driven by the need to redefine the company’s role in Nigeria’s telecom sector.
“This change is necessary for us to give our best. We are not playing catch-up, but to lead in the industry,” Banigbe said.
The unveiling of T2 drew a distinguished audience, with key industry figures in attendance, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani. The evening, hosted by entertainer Darey Art Alade, blended corporate formality with flair, featuring live performances from a range of musical artists.
The rebrand comes at the end of a turbulent chapter in the company’s history. Launched as Etisalat Nigeria, it once boasted over 22 million subscribers and stood as a formidable player in the market. But the exit of its original investors triggered a period of financial strain, infrastructure decline, and subscriber losses. By January 2025, the active customer base had fallen sharply to just 3.2 million.

Determined to rebuild, the company recently struck a national roaming deal with MTN Nigeria — a move expected to extend T2’s network reach and boost service quality for its remaining customers.
This shift from 9mobile to T2 is more than a new name. It represents a calculated effort to steady the business and reassert its presence in Nigeria’s fiercely competitive telecoms arena.
