Eguavoen to Remain Interim Coach of Super Eagles for AFCON Qualifiers

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Augustine Eguavoen will continue as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles. This decision followed a recommendation from the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee and was approved by the federation’s Executive Committee.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the NFF announced that Eguavoen, who has previously led the Super Eagles on three occasions, will guide the team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Libya next month.

Eguavoen, 58, successfully managed the team to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic and a goalless draw with Rwanda in earlier AFCON qualifiers. His continued role as interim coach aims to provide stability as Nigeria seeks to secure its spot in the 2025 tournament.

In addition to Eguavoen’s appointment, the NFF has also approved Coach Justin Madugu to oversee the technical staff of the Senior Women’s National Team, the Super Falcons, until a permanent head coach is appointed. This follows Randy Waldrum’s departure, leaving Madugu in charge as the Super Falcons prepare for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.
