Inter Ease Past Udinese to Secure Italian Cup Quarter-Final Spot

Inter Milan comfortably advanced to the Italian Cup quarter-finals on Thursday, defeating Udinese 2-0 at the San Siro with a much-changed side.

First-half goals from Marko Arnautovic and Kristjan Asllani sealed the win, setting up a last-eight clash with Lazio in February. Asllani’s stunning goal, his first of the season, came directly from a corner kick, highlighting his impact after being one of eight changes from the team that thrashed Lazio 6-0 in Serie A on Monday.

Arnautovic opened the scoring with a composed finish, and Asllani doubled the lead soon after, with his corner curling past everyone into the net. Play had briefly stopped earlier due to a medical emergency in the crowd, but Inter quickly regained their focus to take control of the match.

In the second half, Inter opted to manage the game rather than replicate their ruthless display against Lazio. Mehdi Taremi came close to adding a third but struck the post in a one-on-one with Udinese goalkeeper Omri Glazer in the 77th minute.

The only concern for Inter came at the final whistle, as captain Lautaro Martinez appeared to receive treatment for a potential knee issue. However, no details on the injury’s severity were immediately available.

The quarter-finals played as single-leg ties, will take place in February. Inter remain in strong form, sitting three points behind Serie A leaders Atalanta with a game in hand. Before the year ends, they will face Como and Cagliari in league action.

The Nerazzurri will also compete in the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia in January, taking on Atalanta in the semi-finals on January 2.
