Bradley Barcola’s late goal helped Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secure a 2-1 victory at Lens on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run in Ligue 1 and keeping them 10 points clear at the top of the table.
PSG appeared set to drop points after going behind to Mbala Nzola’s first-half strike for Lens, but Barcola, who is vying for a starting spot with new signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, had other plans.
The French winger set up Fabian Ruiz to equalize for PSG just before the hour mark, and with four minutes remaining, Barcola lashed in the winner to ensure Luis Enrique’s side earned all three points.
The win keeps PSG at the summit of Ligue 1, extending their lead over second-placed Marseille, who host Strasbourg on Sunday. Despite missing key players, including Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, and the ill Ousmane Dembele, PSG demonstrated their strength and depth.
With a critical Champions League clash against Manchester City looming next Wednesday, PSG remains one point outside the qualification spots for the knockout rounds and cannot afford a defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Parc des Princes.
Kvaratskhelia, who joined PSG from Napoli for a reported 70 million euros on Friday, was not part of the squad for the match against Lens, having just completed his transfer. The Georgian winger will also miss the Champions League matches against City and VfB Stuttgart later this month.
