Shakira has been forced to cancel her concert in Lima, Peru, on Sunday after being hospitalised due to abdominal pain.
The Colombian superstar, 48, shared the news with her fans on social media, explaining that she had been taken to the emergency room on Saturday night and was still in hospital at the time of the announcement.
“The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening,” Shakira stated, expressing her deep regret for not being able to take the stage.
She added, “I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru,” while expressing hope that she would be released from the hospital on Monday to resume her tour.
The cancellation comes just days after Shakira kicked off her first worldwide tour in seven years in Rio de Janeiro, shortly after winning a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, an award she dedicated to migrants in the United States facing deportation under President Donald Trump.
Shakira, one of the most iconic Latin artists of all time, is set to perform nearly 50 shows across Latin America by the end of June, with plans to continue the tour in the United States and Canada afterwards.
