President Ramaphosa Opens the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders

President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially opened the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (NHTKL) in Parliament, Cape Town, reaffirming the government’s commitment to working with traditional leaders to drive local development.

The NHTKL consists of representatives from South Africa’s Provincial Houses of Traditional Leaders, serving as a crucial link between traditional leadership and national governance.

During his State of the Nation Address (SoNA) on February 6, 2025, President Ramaphosa emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships with traditional leaders to accelerate economic growth, create jobs, and reduce poverty. Speaking at the opening ceremony, he reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering collaboration with the NHTKL in pursuit of sustainable development.

“This engagement is essential for ensuring that all South Africans benefit from economic opportunities, improved service delivery, and inclusive governance,” President Ramaphosa stated.
