Temporary Runway Closure at Lagos Airport for Maintenance

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for maintenance activities.

This closure, scheduled from March 3 and 4, occurs just two weeks after the runway reopened following an 11-month maintenance period.

In a memo dated February 28, J.U. Nwosu, FAAN’s Head of Operations, highlighted safety issues, indicating that construction equipment at the A2 Taxiway link could present a risk to arriving and departing aircraft. It stressed the importance of the closure to mitigate operational hazards.

Throughout the closure, the shorter domestic runway, 18L/36R, will accommodate all flight operations. Although this runway is operational, its limited capacity may result in potential delays for domestic and international flights.

FAAN has instructed technical departments to bolster security measures, assess facilities, and enforce 24-hour surveillance to guarantee efficient operations.
