The Nigerian Government has released ₦50 billion to settle earned allowances for both academic and non-academic staff unions in federal universities, fulfilling a significant commitment made by President Bola Tinubu.

This information was shared by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in a statement released on Wednesday by Boriowo Folasade, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations.

According to the statement, this funding release marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to enhance the education sector and improve the well-being of university personnel.

“This landmark development stands as yet another testament to President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fundamentally transform Nigeria’s education sector,” Folasade noted.

Dr. Alausa emphasised that this initiative is more than just a financial distribution, describing it as “a reaffirmation of our President’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youth and the invaluable role that academic and non-academic staff play in nurturing them.”

Moreover, the Minister praised the collaboration of the academic unions, noting that the nation is currently experiencing one of the longest continuous academic sessions in its recent history—an accomplishment he attributed to the mutual trust and cooperation between the government and the university community.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with all stakeholders in the education sector, ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
