Sergio Conceicao has refused to be drawn on his future at AC Milan following their 1-0 defeat to Bologna in the Italian Cup final, capping off what has been a turbulent and disappointing season for the Rossoneri.
Dan Ndoye’s first-half goal proved decisive in a scrappy contest, securing Bologna their first major silverware since 1974 and compounding the woes of a Milan side struggling both on and off the pitch.
Conceicao, who took the reins at Milan after the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca and lifted the Italian Super Cup early in his tenure, signed a deal running until the end of next season. However, speculation is rife that he may not remain beyond the summer, with Milan languishing in eighth place in Serie A.

“Right now, I have a lot of thoughts about the game—what went right and what went wrong,” Conceicao told reporters after the final whistle. “I didn’t get into football yesterday. Right now, in my head, I’m trying to work out what more we could have done tonight. We’ll finish the season with dignity and talk about my future later.”
The mood around the club has been soured by a string of poor results and vocal dissatisfaction from supporters towards Milan’s American owners, RedBird Capital.
Milan are three points adrift of Roma, who currently occupy the Serie A spot for UEFA’s Europa Conference League. With two games remaining—first hosting Roma this Sunday before finishing away to already-relegated Monza—the club’s hopes of European qualification now rest solely on their league finish, after missing out via the cup.
Reflecting on the team’s underwhelming campaign, Milan defender Matteo Gabbia said: “Quite simply, it’s been a bad season. We weren’t able to give our best. We were hoping for more, and better, from a team with so much talent.
“It will take some time to digest this defeat. It hurts that we couldn’t win the cup for our supporters.”
