At least 21 people lost their lives in a devastating road accident involving a trailer truck and a bus in central Mexico on Wednesday, local authorities confirmed.
According to Samuel Aguilar, an official from the Puebla state government, 18 individuals were declared dead at the scene, while three more succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. An unspecified number of others were being treated at local medical facilities.
The fatal crash occurred on the highway linking Puebla to the southern state of Oaxaca. Images circulating in Mexican media showed thick plumes of black smoke rising from charred wreckage scattered across the carriageway.

Road traffic accidents have become increasingly common in Mexico in recent years, with contributing factors often including poor vehicle maintenance, reckless driving, and driver fatigue. Freight trucks are frequently involved in such incidents, prompting renewed demands for stricter safety measures on the country’s heavily congested highways.
This latest tragedy follows a string of deadly road accidents in Mexico. In February, a collision between a lorry and a bus in the state of Campeche claimed 38 lives. A month later, more than 30 people died in two separate bus crashes on the same day, including one involving a tractor-trailer and a coach transporting passengers from the US state of Texas.
