Jubilation in Jordan After Nation Qualifies for World Cup

Massive celebrations broke out in Jordan after the national team secured a place in the 2026 World Cup for the first time in their history with a convincing 3-0 win over Oman.

Fans paraded their vehicles through the streets of Amman, the capital city, late Thursday, honking their horns and shouting cheers of triumph, while others waved the national flag in celebration.

Jordan clinched its World Cup entry on the second-to-last day of the Asian qualifying rounds for the 2026 tournament, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Ali Olwin scored three goals, and as the runners-up of the 2023 Asian Cup, they made history. They secured their World Cup spot when South Korea won against Iraq on Thursday.

The royal court released images of King Abdullah II sporting a national team jersey as he watched the match from the embassy in London during his visit there.

“This historic qualification is well-deserved by our team, which includes stars and cadres of whom we are proud,” he wrote on X.

“Special thanks go to our loyal fans who have been our support and encouragement.”
