President Bola Tinubu has called off the previously planned nationwide address to commemorate Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations, indicated that the change is due to President Tinubu’s participation in a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.
He also mentioned that the president will deliver his Democracy Day speech directly from the chambers of the National Assembly.
“Due to President Bola Tinubu scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled. President Tinubu will deliver his address from the National Assembly, ” Imohiosen said.
In addition, he confirmed that other planned activities for the celebration will continue as scheduled.
Previously, a notice sent to media outlets announced the cancellation of the customary military parade that was set to take place for the 26th Democracy Day celebration on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
No official explanation was provided for the cancellation of the military parade.
The document, signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director of Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, mentioned that the president will engage in a special joint session of the National Assembly later that day at noon.
