TCN Opens Bauchi Substation, Boosts Power

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the commissioning of two 150MVA power transformers and a 75MVA reactor at its newly completed 330/132/33kV Bauchi Transmission Substation.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, the company described the project as a significant step towards boosting bulk electricity supply not only to Bauchi State but also to the entire Northeast region.

The commissioning, which took place on July 3, signifies the conclusion of a major infrastructure upgrade that kicked off in February 2022.

The project didn’t stop at transformers and reactors. TCN confirmed that two new transmission towers were erected as part of efforts to enhance the grid’s flexibility and reliability across the region.

Executed in collaboration with the World Bank, the project is set to strengthen power supply to customers served by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company’s franchise area.

“This development underscores TCN’s commitment to expanding the transmission grid and improving electricity infrastructure nationwide,” said Mbah.

She further noted that the substation’s operation is expected to spur economic growth and significantly improve the quality of electricity supply for Bauchi State and the broader Northeast.
