Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a pointed swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of failing to deliver on his campaign promises and instead misleading Nigerians with manipulated economic data.

In a post on his X handle on Monday, Obi revisited a moment from the 2022 presidential campaign trail when then-candidate Tinubu, during a rally in Delta State, mocked him without directly mentioning his name. Tinubu had dismissed Obi’s data-driven approach, declaring: “Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians.”

Nearly two years into the Tinubu presidency, Obi says that promise remains unfulfilled, and that Nigerians are worse off under his administration.

“Nigeria is now classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world, with millions of citizens not knowing where their next meal will come from,” Obi said.

He accused the administration of using “wrong statistics” to cover up deteriorating economic conditions and hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics from inaccurate unemployment and inflation figures to the recent GDP rebasing all in an attempt to put a positive spin on worsening household realities,” Obi remarked.

He added that governance requires more than rhetoric and optics, stressing that the current situation demands leadership grounded in competence and compassion.
