Seven Kidnapped Ondo Farmers Regain Freedom

Seven local farmers who were kidnapped in the Itaogbolu area of Akure North Local Government in Ondo State have been released after enduring five days in captivity, according to reports.

The farmers were set free on Wednesday night, according to sources who also disclosed that the seven farmers were freed in a forest near Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after the kidnappers received a ransom of N5 million along with some food supplies.

The farmers were allegedly abducted over the weekend while they were gathering palm fruits on their farmland when the assailants struck.

Family members reported that the kidnappers contacted them, demanding a ransom of N100 million for the release of the captives. During the negotiations with the families of the victims, the abductors reduced the ransom demand.

In the aftermath of the incident, operatives from the Amotekun Corps, who were on a mission to rescue the farmers, reportedly came under heavy gunfire from the assailants, resulting in injuries to three officials.
