American actress Gina Carano has settled her lawsuit against Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Co., the two sides announced on Thursday.
The lawsuit, which claimed Carano was wrongfully fired from the series The Mandalorian in 2021 for her conservative social media posts, has been dismissed. The specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
In a court filing, both parties agreed to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
The lawsuit was initially filed last year in federal court in California and was scheduled for a trial in February of next year.
Lucasfilm released a statement praising Carano’s professionalism and hinting at future collaboration. “Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect,” the statement read. “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano shortly.”
Carano, a former mixed martial artist who played the character Cara Dune, was fired after a social media post in which she compared the treatment of American conservatives to that of Jews during the Holocaust.
The post sparked widespread online backlash and a trending hashtag, #FireGinaCarano.
Her lawsuit, which was financially supported by Elon Musk, alleged that she was fired for voicing her opinions against an “online bully mob.”
In her statement, Carano thanked her supporters and Musk and expressed her excitement to “move onto the next chapter” in her career.
