The death toll from an Israeli air strike that hit Al Jazeera staff in Gaza has risen to six, following the death of a Palestinian freelance journalist from his injuries, local authorities confirmed on Monday.
The strike, which occurred on Sunday outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, killed five members of Al Jazeera’s team, including prominent reporter Anas al-Sharif. The Israeli military later admitted to targeting Sharif, alleging he was a Hamas operative “posing as a journalist.”

On Monday, Gaza’s civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal and Al-Shifa Hospital director Mohammed Abu Salmiya confirmed that photojournalist Mohammed Al-Khaldi had died from wounds sustained in the attack. Al-Khaldi, who occasionally worked with local media, was the sixth journalist killed in the incident.
Press freedom group Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said nearly 200 journalists have lost their lives in Gaza since Israel’s bombardment intensified after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack.
